Plein air painting is about leaving the four walls of your dwelling behind and experiencing painting and drawing outdoors to capture the landscape. This one day workshop will take place at a pre-determined scenic location in Hopkinton where participants can socially distance while drawing inspiration from the nature that surrounds you.

The workshop will begin with an informative demonstration followed by coached student painting with individual instruction. Throughout the day, there will be numerous topics discussed such as composition, values, various wash options, contrast, textural techniques and choice of art materials. This is a great alternative to on-line learning in which you can safely try your hand at capturing the beauty of autumn in New England!

For semi-experienced water colorists with their own materials. Beginners are welcome and will be provided a materials list. One day workshop (with a one hour lunch break). The HCA will supply students with a table, table easel and chair. In the event of inclement weather, the workshop will be rescheduled. Instructor: Richard Denzer.

Synopsis:

From the day we're hatched to the day we spread our wings and fly on our own, there are requisite, riotous rites of passage that must be experienced. This collection of humorous scenes explores the innocent squawk of infancy, the terrible twos, the treacherous teens, and everything in between.

There are survival courses on how to handle any kind of baby-sitter - from the perfect to the perfectly insane. There are tactics for dealing with those who endeavor to shape, stretch and warp our minds and bodies - like gym teachers, substitute teachers, and those cafeteria culinary queens, the "Little Lunch Ladies." From the angst of adolescence and part-time jobs to the dangers of driver's ed. and dealing with the dreaded kid sister, this is a hilarious, high-flying adventure. Whether you're a feather short of adulthood or have a bird's-eye view of growing up, this play soars with laughter.

Everywhere you look hand lettering appears on rustic board signs, coffee cups, napkins, notebooks and tote bags. Why buy a premade sign when you can make your own personal statement? With techniques and practice through a series of projects, you can learn how to hand letter for fun.

Although this class focuses on modern brush pen style calligraphy, if we have time students can try other methods as their interest leads them such as using a felt chisel point, dip pens and cartridge pens. Each class will start with warm up exercises and students will be given worksheets they can practice on if they wish outside of class.
