The Hopkinton Center for the Arts (HCA) offers a wide array of virtual and in-person classes and workshops in the visual arts, music, dance, theater, and ceramics. Programs are provided year round for students of all ages, from pre-K to adult. Our talented artist-instructors provide a welcoming environment for students at all levels, from beginners to advanced students. We will work with you to discover the best class for your needs. At the HCA we beleive the arts are for everybody. If you are in need of financial assistance, please fill out our online scholarship form.

Registration for this class WILL ONLY INVOLVE A DEPOSIT AT THIS TIME to hold a dancer’s spot in the class (limit 12 students per class). Once a student’s full weekly class schedule is settled based on their registrations (no later than September 1, 2020), the final tuition will be determined relative to the total number of class hours registered per week. Intermediate marks the start of pointe* classes for dancers as well as increased study of pirouettes, adagio, and allegro. Training for advanced students continues its focus on alignment and proper technique while preparing students for pre-professional and professional training options. Both Intermediate and Advanced students are introduced to the world of classical ballet repertory as well as contemporary movement and improvisation through a weekly contemporary class. Intermediate and advanced students are also exposed to historical dance, character dance, modern, jazz, Pilates, and Alexander Technique by weekly classes, workshops, or master classes.

*Students will be placed en pointe when the faculty deems the student ready. Health and safety are a priority with a goal to help keep students dance injury free for a lifetime. Students must be in training a minimum of three days each week to be placed en pointe.

Inspiring and imaginative class designed to be a foundation for basic dance principles and the proper French ballet terminology. An emphasis is placed on musicality and creativity while basic coordination skills and the fundamentals of classical ballet are explored through the use of props and imagery. Individual expression and improvisation is encouraged in a safe and welcoming atmosphere. Students will round out their hour with an introduction to Broadway Jazz. Students may opt to participate in the Spring Concert, and dancers age 7 and up may participate in our annual Nutcracker performance. Two year course of study. Half year session - 17 classes.

Class sizes are kept small and social distancing safe practices are being followed per the local Board of Health.

Once a student’s full weekly class schedule is settled based on their registrations (no later than September 1st), the final tuition will be determined relative to the total number of class hours registered per week.  Additional discounts are available for multiple dance classes taken per week. Students in this Ballet 4 dance class will work on skills in a structured class format to include barre work, center, and elements across the floor. Emphasis is placed on form, musicality, coordination, expression, and working together as a corps. A portion of class remains dedicated to creative dance and individual expression. Many performing opportunities are available for students at this level. Classes will remain small this fall to ensure social distancing.

Note: This program is based on a 36-week academic year calendar. It will be pro-rated for the number of classes left in the year for those that join the class after it begins. Call the HCA at 508-435-9222 to request a pro-rated tuition fee.

Set to age appropriate popular music of today, students will do a warm up inspired by classic broadway styles. Isolations, laterals, stretches, and across the floor progressions are all introduced. Center work, across the floor progressions, and choreographed combinations will also introduce movements based on hip hop style. The movements and music of each class will leave students feeling happy and energized. 12 classes.

This fun, active introduction to creative drama, includes creative movement, imagination, drama games, activities, songs, and hands on crafts. Inspired by favorite children’s books, Storybook Theater will embark on a new adventure each session! Join us for an interactive theatre experience! The final class will involve a performance for friends and family.

For grades Pre-K – 1st grade.  12 classes. Instructor: Maureen Regan. Limited to 8 students on-site at the HCA to ensure six feet of distancing. This class is not offered virtually via Zoom.

If you are looking to pick up ballet again, want to try ballet classes for the first time, or you've looking for a new way to approach health and wellness, this is a perfect class. Have fun working out and learning a classical art form. The faculty does a wonderful job helping each student get the best class they can in order to improve strength and flexibility. We can help you adapt movements as needed (and push you to the next level when you’re ready!). Adult Ballet for Love, Joy, and Health! 12 classes.

The objective of this class is to allow beginner and intermediate teen (high school) actors a chance to explore the art of acting in a judgment-free, team-oriented way. For experienced ceramics students only. This class is an online component to the regularly scheduled Thursday night wheel-throwing/hand-building class. Advanced students can hone their skills with the assistance of the teacher who will provide technical support and inspiration to students who are not able to come into the studio on a regular basis because of the national pandemic. Please note that this is a hybrid class where the teacher will be working with students in the classroom who are primarily focused on wheel-throwing; however, support and instruction will be given to at home hand-building students on an as-needed basis and the computer will be hooked up with the class in the hopes that all students will remain members of our ceramics community and benefit from each others knowledge and experience. Stressed out? Time to sketch! The goal of this class is promote confidence in a student's ability to improve their drawing by attuning their observation, trying new things, and practice. No need to rush to a scheduled online on in-person dance class for your young dancer! Now YOU can choose the day/time each week for your little dancer to embark on their dance adventure. The HCA Dance Adventure series is an imaginative movement program for young children. Dancers will take a virtual trip to the theater, a fairy mountain adventure, a trip to an animal carnival and more. Special guests will be featured each week. During the 5th week, Dance Adventure students will receive fun video tutorials from the teenage dancers in the Upper School. Videos will share how to make a cool headpiece or other dance related craft. Families will then have the option to send in a picture or a video of their dancer doing their favorite moves. The images will be included in an end of session movie to be shared with families via private link. See who else is dancing around their home - just like you are! Stressed out? Time to sketch! The goal of this class is promote confidence in a student's ability to improve their drawing by attuning their observation, trying new things, and practice. In this class, we will execute a variety of techniques to warm up and improve observation skills. These exercises are great for all levels. When ready, students will work towards finished drawings and developing their own practice routines to keep their drawing progressing when not in class. Classes may either start with a friendly and encouraging group critique of drawings or a demonstration of that day’s technique. Instructor: Meredith Fitzgerald. 6 classes.
