Hopkinton Center for the Arts (HCA) offers a wide array of virtual and in-person classes and workshops in the visual arts, music, dance, theater, and ceramics. Programs are provided year-round for students of all ages, from pre-K to adult. Our talented artist-instructors provide a welcoming environment for students at all levels, from beginners to advanced. We will work with you to discover the best class for your needs. At the HCA we believe the arts are for everybody. If you are in need of financial assistance, please fill out our online scholarship form.

If a class has started and you wish to join mid-session, please contact the HCA via email at info@hopartscenter.org. If there is room, we can pro-rate your tuition fee based on the number of classes remaining in the session. Please note that the Upper Ballet Program classes (September 2020-June 2021) are not noted below. 04Jan05AprActor's Studio - Youth Grades: 4th-8th Days: Monday Class Time: 03:00 PM- 04:30 PM Program Type: Teens, Youth Programs + More Info Students will study the techniques of theatre while building foundational acting skills and theatre vocabulary. Students will explore theatre through games, monologues, scene work, character building, and improvisation. The final day of class will feature a showcase. 12 classes. Instructor: Maureen Regan. Isolations, laterals, stretches, and across the floor progressions are all introduced. Center work, across the floor progressions, and choreographed combinations will also introduce movements based on hip hop style. 07Jan18MarOnline Ceramics Handbuilding (Interm/Advanced) Grades: adult Days: Thursday Class Time: 07:30 PM- 10:00 AM Program Type: Adult Programs, Online Programs + More Info For experienced ceramics students only. This class is an online component to the regularly scheduled Thursday night wheel-throwing/hand-building class. Advanced students can hone their skills with the assistance of the teacher who will provide technical support and inspiration to students who are not able to come into the studio on a regular basis because of the national pandemic. Please note that this is a hybrid class where the teacher will be working with students in the classroom who are primarily focused on wheel-throwing; however, support and instruction will be given to at home hand-building students on an as-needed basis and the computer will be hooked up with the class in the hopes that all students will remain members of our ceramics community and benefit from each others knowledge and experience. Included in the class fee is 25 pounds of clay. 16Jan27FebCalligraphy & Hand Lettering (Youth) Grades: 4th-8th Days: Saturday Class Time: 11:00 AM- 12:30 PM Program Type: Youth Programs + More Info There has been an explosion of hand lettering and calligraphy in design and decoration. Everywhere you look hand lettering appears on rustic board signs, coffee cups, napkins, notebooks and tote bags. Why buy a premade sign when you can make your own personal statement? With techniques and practice through a series of projects, you can learn how to hand letter for fun. Although this class focuses on modern brush pen style calligraphy, if we have time students can try other methods as their interest leads them such as using a felt chisel point, dip pens and cartridge pens. Each class will start with warm up exercises and students will be given worksheets they can practice on if they wish outside of class. Instructor: Meredith Fitzgerald. 6 classes. Students must independently memorize and prepare in advance scripted 2-3 minute monologues or 6-8 minute scenes (serious or comic) from a published stage play of their choice. Participants should read the entire play from which their material is chosen. When working on monologues, students must select an uninterrupted speech (not dialogue cobbled together). Please refrain from selecting movie or television scripts.

The Hungry Maze Game of Divergent Death (Comedy Parody) Directed by Colleen Buckley For grades 4th - 8th. Synopsis: Trapped against their will in a dystopian future, a group of students must battle against emotionally sensitive guards, limited budgets, and the trigger-happy Gamemaster to be proclaim the winner. When the odds are this absurdly bleak, it seems certain that only the main character will make it out alive -- but first the contestants must decide who the main character is. A comedic send-up of reality TV and dystopian young adult movies like Divergent, Hunger Games and more! Auditions: Auditions will take place as a group via Zoom on February 13th. Registered students will be sent instructions about what to prepare. Everyone registered will be cast in the play. Limited to 25 cast members. The goal of this class is promote confidence in a student's ability to improve their drawing by attuning their observation, trying new things, and practice. When ready, students will work towards finished drawings and developing their own practice routines to keep their drawing progressing when not in class. Everywhere you look hand lettering appears on rustic board signs, coffee cups, napkins, notebooks and tote bags. Why buy a premade sign when you can make your own personal statement? With techniques and practice through a series of projects, you can learn how to hand letter for fun. Although this class focuses on modern brush pen style calligraphy, if we have time students can try other methods as their interest leads them such as using a felt chisel point, dip pens and cartridge pens.
