Getting Started with Pastel Painting (ONLINE CLASS) w/ Janet Schwartz

Free and open to the public up to 10 participants

Saturday, October 2, 10 am - 12 noon via Zoom.

In this two-hour virtual workshop designed for beginners and aspiring artists, we will use pastels to explore the importance of value and how to simplify what you see and not get stuck on details.

Students will be asked to paint from a photograph that initially looks like an abstraction.  As additional photos are used of the same subject that are more and more in focus, the painting evolves into something recognizable. Focusing on value and composition, we will paint the image together as the instructor guides students to complete the work.   The resulting artwork will delight and inspire participants.

This virtual workshop is free and open to the first ten registered.   Art kits containing workshop materials will be available for pickup at the HCA at no cost.  Students will need an iPad or computer to access the zoom application. A Zoom link will be emailed to participants a day before the workshop.

This program is sponsored by the Hopkinton Cultural Council (HCC) and receives grant funding from Massachusetts Cultural Council.

Grades: 4th-8th

Class Time: 11:00 AM- 03:00 PM

+ More Info

Enter Stage Left Theater is holding auditions for it's winter production Roald Dahl's Matilda the Musical on October 23rd. All students who register for this production will be cast in the show.

Directed by Mary Scarlata-Rowe.

Rehearsals will be Saturday late morning/afternoons and Wednesday evening rehearsals a week through November 2021 - January 2022. (Excluding major holidays/school breaks). Not all characters may be called for every rehearsal.

Performances will take place the last weekend in January 2022 at the Hopkinton Middle School.

Students in grades 2nd-3rd may sign up to be part of the Jr. Ensemble: CLICK HERE

Rebellion is nigh in Matilda JR., a gleefully witty ode to the the anarchy of childhood and the power of imagination! This story of a girl who dreams of a better life and the children she inspires will have audiences rooting for the "revolting children" who are out to teach the grown-ups a lesson.

Matilda has astonishing wit, intelligence... and special powers! She's unloved by her cruel parents but impresses her schoolteacher, the highly loveable Miss Honey. Matilda's school life isn't completely smooth sailing, however – the school's mean headmistress, Miss Trunchbull, hates children and just loves thinking up new punishments for those who don't abide by her rules. But Matilda has courage and cleverness in equal amounts, and could be the school pupils' saving grace!
