Hopkinton Center for the Arts (HCA) offers a wide array of virtual and in-person classes and workshops in the visual arts, music, dance, theater, and ceramics. Programs are provided year-round for students of all ages, from pre-K to adult. Our talented artist-instructors provide a welcoming environment for students at all levels, from beginners to advanced. We will work with you to discover the best class for your needs. At the HCA we believe the arts are for everybody. If you are in need of financial assistance, please fill out our online scholarship form.

 

Further down this page you will a chronological list of current classes. Use the filters to aid in your search. If a class has started and you wish to join mid-session, please contact the HCA via email at info@hopartscenter.org

 

Refund policy: If you notify the HCA via email to info@hopartscenter.org two weeks prior to the start of a class, you will be offered a full refund or credit to use towards a future class. Cancellations that occur with less than two weeks notice are not refundable.

This program is based on a 36-week academic year September 2021 - June 2022. The $50 registration fee will hold a spot for your child in this class. The final fee due will be calculated based on the number of dance classes registered for (to be determined no later than September 12, 2021). Discounts are available for multiple dance classes taken per week. Payment installment plans are available. For more information, or you wish to join the class mid-session, please email jessica@hopartscenter.org with the request or with any other questions you may have about the class.

Unless specifically noted, classes will take place at the HCA South Street dance studio location at 22 South Street, 2nd floor, Suite 205.  

Students will work on skills in a structured class format to include barre work, center, and elements across the floor. Emphasis is placed on form, musicality, coordination, expression, and working together as a corps. A portion of class remains dedicated to creative dance improvisation where individual expression is encouraged in a safe and welcoming atmosphere. Ballet 4 students are encouraged to supplement their training with Broadway Jazz. Set to age appropriate popular music of today, our jazz classes are inspired by classic broadway styles. Classes include a warm up, isolations, laterals, stretches, across the floor progressions, and choreographed combinations. The movements and music of each class will leave students feeling happy and energized. Theater and all dance students will find jazz technique provides wonderful advancement.

Many performing opportunities are available for students at this level including the Spring Concert and The Nutcracker.

This class will take place in-person, but can be available to a student who wishes to access the class from home via Zoom.

Many performing opportunities are available for students at this level. Students may opt to participate in the Spring Concert, and dancers age 7 and up may participate in our annual Nutcracker performance.

Hopkinton Center for the Arts—Art Around the World series presents a FREE children's cultural program. You and your child are welcome to join us as we celebrate a different culture each month with instructor Judith Smith. Kids will listen to a story, hear a themed-song and have fun making a culturally themed art craft. Program runs Saturday 2:00 to 3:00 pm via a Zoom link. Participants will be sent a list in advance of simple materials to provide your child for the craft. A computer screen and internet connection is required. Recommended for kids 4-8 y/o

Set to popular music of today, students will do a warm up inspired by classic broadway styles. Isolations, laterals, stretches, and across the floor progressions are all introduced along with fun choreographed combinations inspired by popular dances and hip hop moves. The movements and music of each class will leave students feeling happy and energized.

This popular HCA program is full of color and fun! Kids will create unique pieces of art that will involve the use of clay, paint and other fun materials. Each week's project will also provide an opportunity to connect the project back to a theme involving culture, history, math or science. All materials will be provided.

The Cartoon Club is a fun and creative class that will give students a well-rounded base and get them started on mastering the styles they desire to doodle in. In this class, HCA Director of Music Eric Miller will help you learn how to use your ears, eyes, and mind together to process music in a new way. Demystify sheet music and learn to read and listen well with good understandings of music cognition, music theory, and sight-singing skills. For any music-lover, from the college-bound music or musical theater major, to the professional musician, to the amateur musician alike.

Drawing can be one of the most relaxing and creative activities to engage in. The perfect stress-reliever! Watercolors, Pastels, Oil, Acrylics - Oh My! There's a wide variety of paint in the world of visual arts. This class is different than the Fine Arts Academy, as it will not be project-based or focus on a particular artist. Rather, it will be a foundational exploration of all that can be done with different types of paint! From there you will be ready to take a dedicated class to the medium of your choice. Materials will be provided.

Instructor: Lee Ball. 8 classes: 11/19, 12/3, 12/10, 12/17, 1/7, 1/14 & 1/21. No classes on 11/26, 12/24 & 12/31.

Please note that this course qualifies for the HCA Visual Art Studio Certificate Program (4th-8th grade). The certificate program requires a student complete 16 classes of Drawing Fundamentals, 16 classes of Painting Fundamentals, 8 classes of a sculpture-based or mixed media materials course and 8 classes of an elective visual arts course. The very foundation of visual arts starts with a pencil on paper. Instructor Lee Ball will focus on making drawing fun, rewarding and a freeing experience, while covering fundamental skills such as contour drawings, line weight, value and texture.
