The Hopkinton Center for the Arts (HCA) offers a wide array of virtual and in-person classes and workshops in the visual arts, music, dance, theater, and ceramics. Programs are provided year round for students of all ages, from pre-K to adult. Our talented artist-instructors provide a welcoming environment for students at all levels, from beginners to advanced students. We will work with you to discover the best class for your needs. At the HCA we beleive the arts are for everybody. If you are in need of financial assistance, please fill out our online scholarship form.

Note: the Upper ballet program classes will take place at the HCA Performance Space at 98 Hayden Rowe St. (at least through 2020 to allow for greater distancing). This program is based on a 36-week academic year calendar. Placement in this class is required for all new students. 

Registration for this class WILL ONLY INVOLVE A DEPOSIT AT THIS TIME to hold a dancer’s spot in the class (limit 12 students per class). Once a student’s full weekly class schedule is settled based on their registrations (no later than September 1, 2020), the final tuition will be determined relative to the total number of class hours registered per week. Intermediate marks the start of pointe* classes for dancers as well as increased study of pirouettes, adagio, and allegro. Training for advanced students continues its focus on alignment and proper technique while preparing students for pre-professional and professional training options. Both Intermediate and Advanced students are introduced to the world of classical ballet repertory as well as contemporary movement and improvisation through a weekly contemporary class. Intermediate and advanced students are also exposed to historical dance, character dance, modern, jazz, Pilates, and Alexander Technique by weekly classes, workshops, or master classes.

*Students will be placed en pointe when the faculty deems the student ready. Health and safety are a priority with a goal to help keep students dance injury free for a lifetime. Students must be in training a minimum of three days each week to be placed en pointe.

Teen Broadway Jazz and Hip Hop

Set to age appropriate popular music of today, students will do a warm up inspired by classic broadway styles. Isolations, laterals, stretches, and across the floor progressions are all introduced. Center work, across the floor progressions, and choreographed combinations will also introduce movements based on hip hop style. The movements and music of each class will leave students feeling happy and energized. 12 classes.

Teen Actors Studio

The objective of this class is to allow beginner and intermediate teen (high school) actors a chance to explore the art of acting in a judgment-free, team-oriented way. You will learn terminology, how to break down a scene, and learn the tools to help you build a character from within. We will explore different methods of acting through scene work and character development. The class will work toward a showcase for the final class however the emphasis for this class is the work. This class is for the serious student. Students will "audition" during the first class for placement purposes. There will be work required outside of class.

10 classes. Limited to 6 students in studio to allow for social distancing. The HCA is open to offering students the opportunity to Zoom into the live class from the comfort of their home.
