The Hopkinton Center for the Arts is excited to announce our 2021 playwriting competition for budding or seasoned playwrights!
COMPETITION RULES
Length of play 1 Act
Subject Matter The play can be of any genre. Special attention will be given to plays with social significance.
Status of play The play should be unproduced and unpublished
Number of entries Up to three entries per playwright
Submissions & Fees Submissions will be accepted up until midnight April 30, 2021. There is a $20 per script submission fee. Scripts will be in Word or PDF form and uploaded through the Hopkinton Center for the Arts submission site accompanied by payment and completed submission form. The play should be formatted in standard stage play format.
Competition Announcement Winners will be determined by the end of July 2021. The receipt of all plays will be acknowledged, but only the winning play will be notified of its status. All entries are final; no revisions will be accepted. Plays will not be returned or critiqued.
Prize Cash prize of $200. The top three plays will be selected by committee. Hopkinton Center for the Arts will have the right to cut the play to run no more than 45 minutes. These short versions will be presented to an audience of local residents during the Annual Play, Pies, and Pints Festival. The audience members will vote on their favorite play and that play will be declared the winner of the competition. The authors of these final plays will be welcome to attend the festival at their own expense.
A full production of the winning play will be performed at the HCA the following year. The playwright will grant the Hopkinton Center for the Arts the rights to produce the play, royalty free.

Appropriate for students registered in Kindergarten for the fall of 2021 to register. Welcome to ballet! Ballet 1 aims to be an inspiring and imaginative classes designed to be a foundation for basic dance principles and the proper French ballet terminology. An emphasis s placed on musicality and creativity while basic coordination skills and the fundamentals of classical ballet are explored through the use of props and imagery. Individual expression and improvisation is encouraged in a safe and welcoming atmosphere. Students round out the hour with an Intro to Broadway Jazz. Students may opt to participate in the Spring Concert. Half year session - 17 classes. In this class, you’ll build a deeper connection between mind and body. Cultivate conscious relaxation, ease ongoing stress and anxiety, and feel your body melt away into a soothing state of being. From beginner to advanced yogis, anyone can reap the benefits of yoga nidra in this class!
Recommended: yoga mat, water, blocks, blanket, socks, bolster, etc.

Fee: Dawn is offering these workshops for free and requests that students make a donation when you register for the class or in-person to help support the HCA. Please avoid scams and do not purchase tickets from anybody on social media claiming to have extra or unable to use theirs.
This class will be offered 1/12, 1/19, 1/26, 2/2 and 2/9. Individual registration is required for each date.
You don't need to commit to a multi-week class. This workshop can be taken on a week-to-week basis to allow you flexibility!
Learn the unlimited creative potential of using various materials and types of paint to create unique pieces of art. Art is a wonderful way to reduce stress and have fun! All materials will be provided. This is an on-site class only at the HCA. Space is limited for on-site programs in order to be compliant with the Massachusetts guidelines for gatherings and social distancing.
Instructor: Beth Newman. This class will be offered on Wednesdays. You must register for each class separately.
