Instructor: Karen Renaud. Space is limited. Must register in advance!

Karen Renaud is the Wellness Subject Matter Leader for the Hopkinton Public School system.  She teaches a variety of wellness courses including stress management, self defense and Ballroom Dance!

Fifteen years ago, she walked into a ballroom dance studio looking for a new challenge and a fun way to exercise.  What she thought was going to a six week summer experiment turned into a lifelong love affair with this form of dance.  As she began acquiring skills, she started introducing a few steps to her high school students and was thrilled to see their response.  Her students wanted to learn more so she shifted her focus to learning how to teach both the lead and follow positions for eight dances.  She studied DVIDA, NDCA and Fred Astaire curriculum with professional instructors in FL and MA and, over the years, implemented a ballroom dance curriculum for grades 2-12 including a full semester elective course in the Medfield Public School system.  Some of her favorite highlights of the program were the "Golden Shoes Dance Competition" in which the entire sophomore class competed and the "Dancing with the Warriors" showcase which highlighted the ballroom dance students performances along with collegiate and professional dancers.

These days, Karen enjoys training for showcase performances and competitions but she also loves helping friends and family learn a few dance moves for fun and special events such as weddings.  She has often been asked to teach classes for adults in the community and felt it was the right time to do so.  She believes that ballroom dance is a joyful lifetime skill that helps improve all aspects of physical, mental, social and emotional health.  She is excited to partner with the Hopkinton Center for the Arts to offer this beginner workshop  If you've ever watched other people dancing and wish you could do it too, now is your chance!  You do not need to have experience or even a partner.  Come alone or with your loved one or with a bunch of friends.  We will laugh, move, stimulate your brain and learn a valuable skill one small step at a time.  :)
