Playwriting Competition
The Hopkinton Center for the Arts is excited to announce our 2021 playwriting competition for budding or seasoned playwrights!
COMPETITION RULES
Length of play
1 Act (Max 45 minutes)
Subject Matter
The play can be of any genre. Special attention will be given to plays with social significance.
Status of play
The play should be unproduced and unpublished
Number of entries
Up to three entries per playwright
Submissions & Fees
Submissions will be accepted up until midnight April 30, 2021. There is a $20 per script submission fee. Scripts will be in Word or PDF form and uploaded through the Hopkinton Center for the Arts submission site accompanied by payment and completed submission form. The play should be formatted in standard stage play format.
Competition Announcement
Winners will be determined by the end of May 2021. The receipt of all plays will be acknowledged. All entries are final; no revisions will be accepted.
The winning writer(s) will also receive a free year-long subscription to www.playsubmissionshelper.com, the most comprehensive and up-to-date online directory of play submission opportunities available anywhere.
Prize
Cash prize of $200. The top three plays will be selected by committee. Hopkinton Center for the Arts will have the right to cut the play to run no more than 45 minutes. These short versions will be presented to an audience of local residents during the annual A Play, A Pie & A Pint Festival. The audience members will vote on their favorite play and that play will be declared the winner of the competition.
A full production of the winning play will be performed at the HCA the following year. The playwright will grant the Hopkinton Center for the Arts the rights to produce the play, royalty free.

08Mar12AprFundamental Drawing Skills - Session 2 (Adult/Teen) + More Info Drawing is one of the most relaxing ways to de-stress and express yourself creatively! This course for beginners will explore basic drawing skills using various mark making media including, graphite, ink and charcoal. A simple materials list will be provided to students. 6 classes. Instructor: Lee Ball. This is a wonderful opportunity for families and friends to connect via Zoom each week to take a class together! For those who wish to take a break from the computer screen and interact with students in a setting that allows for social distancing, they are welcome to take the class at the HCA while the teacher Zooms in to provide instruction. 10MarMixed Media Art for Adults March 10th + More Info You don't need to commit to a multi-week class. This on-site workshop can be taken at the HCA on a week-to-week basis to allow you flexibility! Learn the unlimited creative potential of using various materials and types of paint to create unique pieces of art. Art is a wonderful way to reduce stress and have fun! All materials will be provided. This is an on-site class only at the HCA. Space is limited for on-site programs in order to be compliant with the Massachusetts guidelines for gatherings and social distancing. Instructor: Beth Newman. This class will be offered on Wednesdays. You must register for each class separately. Note: The picture below is an example of mixed media. Each workshop will have a different project.

Join Us For Our Virtual Cabaret Open Mic | Friday, March 12, 2021 If you love musical theater, then join us for our virtual Cabaret Open Mic! We're pleased to welcome our featured singer, Rachel MacKenzie, to our March event! Invite your friends and family to watch! Rachel MacKenzie will kick off the cabaret with a selection of songs, from there we will open it up to others singers! To participate: 1. 13MarPhotoshop Elements 101: Intro to the Editor + More Info Want to improve your digital photos after they are taken or improve a scanned image? Learn the basics of the Photoshop Elements Editor such as cropping and resizing images (such as for email or print), straightening images, adjusting lighting and colors and removing problems in your images such as spots, lines and more. Great for people wanting to post images on family tree websites! Learn how and when to use these tools to improve your photos. Instructor: Joy Marzolf. No experience required. 13Mar17AprArt Adventures Session 2 + More Info This fun, online class will involve creating unique pieces of art that connect to science, history, and math. Excellent for the development of fine motor skills and cognitive fuctions. An art kit is included in the tuition for this program. Instructor: Judy Smith. 6 classes. A laptop, tablet or video-conferencing device and a reliable internet connection are required for this class. Class dates will be 3/13, 3/20, 3/27, 4/3, 4/10, 4/17. An art kit will be provided by the HCA which parents can pick up prior to the start of the session. March 13 - April 17 (10:30 am-11:30 am)
