Please let us know about any medical conditions, allergies, medications, or special needs that we should be aware of. In addition – if you are registering for a child – to provide your child with the best experience possible at HCA, it would be very helpful if you let us know the following information: Does your child have an IEP, 504 plan, or require extra or one-to-one assistance at school? Is there anything else that would be helpful for us to know?
Would you like to make a donation to the HCA annual fund to ensure that we can continue to offer free events, and make exceptional arts programs accessible to all?

Adult Re:Curve

Ages 18-80|Grades adult

07/07/20 - 08/11/20

Tue, 7:00 PM - 8:00 PM
Session Type:N/A
This class is a movement-freeing, joint-opening workout that gently helps you find strength by connecting to your natural curves and spirals. It has grown out of my lifelong passion for and exploration of Classical Ballet, Modern dance, Pilates, and the Alexander Technique. We begin with a quiet floor warm-up that asks us to tune in to where we are holding tension, and connect with the process of letting it go. We build an awareness of our spiral structure, exploring circular movements both into and away from our center as we develop a series of exercises following the theme of the class. One day it may be freeing the hip joints. Another day we may open up the ribs and shoulders. Our goal is to rediscover our innate and efficient “self-use." Class works toward building core strength and free flowing movement in tandem with conscious control of the breath. We may continue with standing balance explorations, always with the intention of staying unstressed and curious. We return to the floor to quietly re-center, letting ourselves absorb and process our discoveries. Join us to play with gravity, and circle back to yourself in this safe, non-competitive, judgment-free class! In the event that Covid-19 guidelines do not advise in-person classes at our site, the class will be offered virtually. In that event, participants will need a laptop, tablet or video-conferencing device and a reliable internet connection are required for this class. You will also need a thick exercise mat and enough space to lie with arms and legs outstretched. Instructor: Cathy Fallon is a former Principal ballet dancer, is Pilates Mat certified, holds a B.S in Kinesthetic Education and Dance, and is an AmSAT certified teacher of the Alexander Technique mind/body awareness technique.
