Exploring Sculpture Art

This online course for beginners will explore sculptural ideas such as assemblage, relief, in the round, kinetic and modeling using common and found objects in unexpected ways. Instructor: Lee Ball. 8 classes. This class is offered both onsite and online. Space is limited for on-site programs in order to be compliant with the Massachusetts guidelines for gatherings. For those who wish to take a break from the computer screen and interact with students in a setting that allows for social distancing, they are welcome to take the class at the HCA while the teacher Zooms in to provide instruction.

Set to age appropriate popular music of today, our jazz classes are inspired by classic broadway styles. Classes include a warm up, isolations, laterals, stretches, across the floor progressions, and choreographed combinations. The movements and music of each class will leave students feeling happy and energized. Students interested in supplementing their theater or ballet training will find jazz technique provides wonderful advancement. 8 classes. Class size is limited to 4 students. The HCA is open to offering students the opportunity to take a parallel class virtually from the comfort of their home. Calligraphy & Hand Lettering (Youth)

There has been an explosion of hand lettering and calligraphy in design and decoration. Everywhere you look hand lettering appears on rustic board signs, coffee cups, napkins, notebooks and tote bags. Why buy a premade sign when you can make your own personal statement? With techniques and practice through a series of projects, you can learn how to hand letter for fun. Although this class focuses on modern brush pen style calligraphy, if we have time students can try other methods as their interest leads them such as using a felt chisel point, dip pens and cartridge pens. Each class will start with warm up exercises and students will be given worksheets they can practice on if they wish outside of class. Instructor: Meredith Fitzgerald. 8 classes. This class is offered onsite only. Space is limited for on-site programs in order to be compliant with the Massachusetts guidelines for gatherings.

Storybook Theater

This fun, active introduction to creative drama, includes creative movement, imagination, drama games, activities, songs, and hands on crafts. Inspired by favorite children’s books, Storybook Theater will embark on a new adventure each session! Join us for an interactive theatre experience! The final class will involve a performance for friends and family. For grades Pre-K – 1st grade. 8 classes. Instructor: Maureen Regan. Observational Drawing - Session 2

Previously titled "Landscape/Nature Drawing", this class will explore beyond landscapes to include a variety of techniques drawing from observation those objects that are all around them in the HCA building (as opposed to drawing from photographs). Each class will cover various techniques that will build to a final project.  Students will be encouraged to do independent sketching in between classes. 

This is an on-site HCA class and limited to 8 students - grades 6th and up. Instructor Marion Buricatu. 6 classes in this session
