About the event

Enter Stage Left Theater, the Resident Theater Company of the Hopkinton Center for the Arts, will be holding auditions for its Fourth Annual outdoor summer One-Act Play Festival, "A Play, A Pint & A Pie," to be performed on August 24 and 25, 2024. This festival showcases several short plays selected from nationwide and international playwright submissions and has been the hottest summer ticket since 2021.

Auditions will be held on Sunday, May 12, from 6 to 9 p.m., and Tuesday, May 14, from 7 to 9 p.m., at the HCA, 98 Hayden Rowe St., Hopkinton, MA. Auditioners should prepare a short monologue to be presented to the director team and will be asked to read from the various scripts.

Here are the selected one acts:

1.The Terrific Trials and Tribulations of Field Reporter Extraordinaire: Perry Cooper's Adventures Overseas in an Exotic Locale

Two reporters for a post-WWII newspaper rush to get their famous adventurer's latest story to print before deadline.

Characters:

-Dora: A seasoned reporter

-Freddy: A new reporter

(There is gender flexibility in casting)

2. Please Don't Lie to Me by Brad White

A Compulsive Liar Support Group meets up against fundamental obstacles!

Characters:

-Larry: Male, 35-45- confident, empathetic

-Michael: Male, 20-25- excitable, energetic

-Deena: Female, 25-35- hippy/counterculture type

-Charles: Male, 40+-conservative businessman

-Blanche: Female, 40+-diva

-John: Male, 35+ truthful

3. The Real Thing by Marjorie Williamson

Ellen doesn't have much to show for her 35 years.  Leave it to a chance encounter with an old friend to shake things up!

Characters:

-Ellen: Female, 30-40

-Pamela: Female, same age

4. Sit With Me by Sandip Mazumber

A chance encounter of a homeless middle-aged woman and a venture capitalist at a bus stop leads to unexpected revelation and meaningful connection.

Characters:

-Riya: Female about 40 years old, unemployed (This role requires an actor of Indian origin)

-Joy: Male about 60 years old, a venture capitalist

5. Van Halen'd Potatoes by Tim Lehnert

A couple get more than they bargained for when they take in a trendy, exclusive restaurant for their wedding anniversary!

Characters:

-Sheila: a middle aged woman, wife of Jay

-Jay: a middle-aged man husband of Sheila

-Server (Mitch AKA Bruce): Young adult male (may also be played by a woman)

-Chef (Andre): middle-aged man

6.  Todd Tries Speed-Dating by Robert P. Gilbert

Todd's immerses himself in the fast-paced dating world, but could this really be the path to finding true love?

Characters:

-Moderator (voice only): open to various genders

-Todd: male, various ages considered

-Female Actor 1: (will portray various speed dates) various ages considered

-Female Actor 2: (will portray various speed dates) various ages considered
