SOL: Smile Out Loud Exhibition

ABOUT THE ARTIST:

DaNice D Marshall is a born writer. Who in 2016 was diagnosed with a rare illness, named Granulomatosis with Polyangiitis. After 28 days in the hospital, doctors sent her home to write a will and to set her house in order. DaNice lay herself to sleep, and fortunately for her and us, she kept waking up. Unfortunately, the disease left her unable to walk without a cane and with single-sided hearing loss. No longer able to concentrate on writing, DaNice taught herself to paint abstracts, as she puts it, “mostly to watch the paint dry”. Over time, her work evolved into the narrative art we see today. In this way, she paints stories she can no longer write. In the “SOL, Smile Out Loud” exhibition, DaNice depicts ordinary life with smiles of joy; it is a familiar thread to remind us that we’re more alike than we…
