HCA is excited to announce our nineteenth annual Arts in Bloom exhibition, juried by Claudia Fiks. CLAUDIA FIKS is an experienced art administrator with a dedication spanning over two decades in the arts and culture sector. She currently holds the position of Director at Galatea Fine Art, an art gallery located in the SoWA Arts and Design District in Boston. Additionally, she serves as the Director at Newton Open Studios, a writer correspondent for Artscope Magazine, a guided tour at Art Fairs including Art Miami Basel, and an independent consultant for various art organizations.
Claudia's extensive career includes roles as Program Director and Development Director at the Eliot School for Fine and Applied Arts, Fuller Craft Museum, and the Society of Arts and Craft. Beyond her administrative positions, Claudia contributes as a grant panelist at the Mass Cultural Council and curates and organizes open calls and exhibitions in the Boston area.
These diverse roles showcase Claudia's transparent passion and unwavering dedication to the arts. She is firmly committed to strengthening the arts landscape by advocating for inclusion, championing creative expression, and creating abundant opportunities for widespread artistic engagement.
Arts in Bloom is a competitive juried annual show open to all artists. Claudia will choose the artwork to be exhibited and select six outstanding works for awards. These artworks will be honored with fresh flower arrangements designed by Hopkinton Garden Club members for the May 12, 2024 reception. The six winning artists will receive cash prizes totaling over $1,000.
The Theme: Harmony of Opposites (Although you may submit artworks that depict flowers, please consider other subjects to make it more interesting for the floral designers)
Specifications: Up to three artworks not shown at HCA may be submitted. All 2D media, including photos, fiber, and digital art, may be entered. The work must be wired for hanging. The maximum height and width for framed wall-hung work is 40 inches. Click here for more information.
3D work may be entered if it is free-standing (does not require a pedestal), can be hung on the wall, and does not protrude more than 10 inches. No sawtooth hangers, sandwich frames, giclee prints, copies, derivatives, or electronic reproductions will be accepted.
03/29: Call Deadline 04/05: Announcement of selected artworks Art Drop off: Art accepted into the show is to be received by mail* or dropped off Friday 04/19, 3-6 pm, and/or Saturday 4/20, 10 am-1 pm 04/23: Exhibition Opens 05/10: Opening Reception 05/23: Exhibit Ends Art Pick Up: Friday 05/24, 3–6 pm, and Saturday 05/25, 10 a.m.–1 p.m.
*Non-local selected artists' work must be received at the HCA, 98 Hayden Rowe St, Hopkinton, MA 01748 c/o exhibitions by May 19, 2024. Non-local artists are responsible for shipping costs to and from the HCA and insure their work while in transit. If shipping work, each artist must provide a pre-paid UPS or FedEx return shipping label, including insurance. Please pack your work in sturdy, reusable packaging. The HCA carries appropriate insurance to cover all artwork in the show for the duration of the exhibition, including the time frame of drop-off, installation, de-installation, and pick-up
Eligibility: Artists of all ages are welcome to apply.
Submission Fee: $35 for Members and $45 for Non-Members for up to three submissions. To become a member, please visit the HCA Membership page. Accessibility: The HCA gallery spaces are fully accessible, and we strive to make the exhibition submission process accessible to all artists. We encourage anyone to enter our open-call exhibitions. Commission Structure: Artists receive 70% commission, and the HCA receives 30% for art sold during the exhibition. The HCA may duplicate and reproduce images of work for purposes of public relations and exhibition announcements directly related to the exhibition.
